Over the weekend, Sarah, a friend I’ve known pretty much my entire life — our families first met as neighbors in Virginia over thirty years ago and now she and I are both North Brooklynites — came by to visit. Not only did she kindly endure my attempts at talking, she also brought me homemade dal and a batch of vichysoisse (and a milkshake recipe. Is this a good neighbor or what?). Sarah lamented having to “blend out” the natural texture of the lentils, but I think the spices and lemon make it so flavorful that it works when perfectly smooth.
Note: lentils, like beans and other foods with skins, will need extra time in the blender to get past the stuck-in-teeth consistency.
